sorry and hello

wow, it's been a really long time since i have posted and i feel rather guilty. i have lots of things to post about that i will present as a bit of a list of excuses for my lack of posting...

1. very exciting news! i am now stocking my brooches at gorman! about two weeks ago i met with the lovely ladies there and they chose a range of 5 brooches to stock in gorman stores throughout australia. they ordered 267 pieces and i set myself the somewhat mental task of completing them all in a week. and, yes, it was a busy, busy week of late nights and early mornings but it was all worth it in the end to have a dream come true and have my work in one of my very favourite australian stores. please pop in and have a look!
one of my brooches in the window of gorman on brunswick st. hurruh! and thank you to my friend andrew for the fabulous photograph!

2. on the same day that i met with gorman i received an email from the lovely milly at craft victoria, asking if i could pop in to see if they might like to stock my work! all went well and i am now stocked at craft victoria too! they have a range of my brooches as well as a range of my fimo chain necklaces. every time i go in there i get stuck for ages drooling (figuratively) over all of their beautiful things. thank you again craft vic ladies! you are so very lovely and fabulously supportive!

3. i participated in two markets - the bikefest craft hatch market at 1000 pound bend, as well as a group stall for RMIT textiles at the design market last sunday. both went really well and i bought some pretty cool goodies that i will post about later on.

Weekend in Perth

I got back to Melbourne last night (after a 45minute delay) at 12am from a weekend at home in Perth. I went back for my mum's 60th Birthday and also to meet my newborn second cousin Finn. Here are a few photos from my days away.

'Asparagus trees' that I spied near the coast!

Paste-up!

As part of the screen printing unit that i've just finished at TAFE we had to create a two-colour paste-up to put up in the laneway next to my lecturer's shop Olive Grove. This is my piece! I felt very subversive sticking it up. I'm very tempted to put up more...

New Stockists! Hurrah!

Well, what an eventful week it has been! I started a new job as an art technician, I did two days at the Rose Street Market, I submitted my second semester's TAFE work and now have two new stockists for my work! Phew! The first is a well-known Melbourne locale, renowned for its love and support of all things hand made - Meet Me at Mikes! and the second is a shop that is just opening this Saturday in the Blue Mountains called Hold Your Horses, run by a lovely girl called Erin! Terribly excited to have my things in both these stockists! Check out their blogs!

Craft Hatch Wrap Up

On Saturday I had a lovely day as a stall holder at the Craft Victoria Craft Hatch Market at the SLV. Despite my chronic hay fever (which settled as the day progressed) I really enjoyed meeting the other stall holders and seeing their beautiful wares but most of all loved meeting all the gorgeous people who made the effort to venture out on a drizzly Melbourne morning to say hello and purchase some locally made goods. I was so excited to meet jewellery designer Victoria Mason, fellow artisan and blogger Evie Smith (of Handmade Romance) and am loving the gorgeous photo collage that I purchased from Liesl Pfeffer. Thanks very much to Kim and Pip at Craft Victoria, people and a place that do great things for Victorian craftspeople x

The Fabulous Design Files

Hello Again! I realise that this is a week late now but better late than never right...? I would like to say a very very very big thank you to the girls at Craft Victoria and The Design Files for giving me the absolutely amazing opportunity of being featured as part of the Craft Hatch Guest Blog on The Design Files. I can't thank them enough for your kind words and amazing support. If you would like to see my interview etc go to
http://thedesignfiles.net/category/guest/ you'll just have to scroll down a bit to find it! Links to Craft Victoria and The Design Files can be found on my blog.

Fantastic Fimo!

Me and my childhood creative medium of choice, Fimo, have recerntly been reunited and boy is it great to be back together! When I was a child in the 1980's I used to totally deck myself out in Fimo accessories including a world globe pendant on a leather strap and 20 cent coin sized dog earrings.....! This weekend I started making some of these (far more restrained) colourful Fimo bead and chain necklaces. I have been enlisting the help of my Papa who is currently visiting from Perth to help warm up and knead the Fimo for me (he's  a good dad!) and whipped up some more beads last night. Stay tuned for more colour combos! Thank you to my gorgeous friends for modelling! x

Braids, plaits etc.

A few drawings that I have been doing lately. I'm really interested in braids and representing hair. A tricky thing to do accurately but I'm having a go!

Rock Monster

Colourful, crazy monster I drew/coloured in PhotoShop based upon an Inuit rock carving. Think I might develop this fellow into a pattern.

Narwahls.

I'm not sure if anyone else has heard of this creature before but I certainly hadn't, and when I discovered it on the net a few days ago I could keep from gaping at it! A Narwahl is a REAL type of whale that lives in the Arctic! And no, the unicorn horn protruding from its forehead has not been Photoshopped in! Now I understand how a friend of mine thought that unicorns were real... I can't wait to do some magical drawings incorporating these amazing beasts.

And some more....

I know the images are pretty crappy but I thought I should get them up and out there all the same. There is a story as to why these images are so low quality... my worst nightmare came true on Friday night when I realised that I have lost a usb that has a LOT of my work on it (my nice, high resolution photographs included!). I am crossing all of my fingers and toes that when I head into tafe tomorrow the Karma gods smile down upon me and that some kind soul has handed it in.

New brooches!

Have decided to integrate some watercolour and other textures into my designs. Quite happy with the result!
